Kate Moss, who has become one of the most recognized and highest paid supermodels of the nineties, was born in Croydon, Surrey, England, on the 16th of January 1974.

Kate's entry into the fashion industry all started in 1988, when Kate and her family were in JFK airport on their way back from a vacation in the Bahamas. The then 14-year-old Kate caught the eye of Sarah Ducas of Storm Agency, who approached Kate. This chance encounter was the launching pad of her hugely successful care...

In 1984, Kate Moss was discovered by Sarah Doukas, the founder of Storm model agency, at JFK airport at the age of just 14, as she prepared to board a flight home to London with her father. After a series of shoots for teenage magazines, it was Harper’s Bazaar that finally launched her into the international arena. In 1992, she became the Face of Calvin Klein.

Moss originally spearheaded the controversial ''waif'' look which critics claimed encouraged anorexia in impressionable teenagers. The girl from Croydon, who once said she ''might’ve been a bank manager'' . She has appeared in several notable documentaries about the fashion world and in 1995, released a hard-back book of pictures entitled simply ''Kate''. In London she is still represented by Storm.

The group will then on to Moss’ country pile in the Cotswolds where boyfriend, guitarist Jamie Hince of The Kills, and the band’s lead singer Alison Mosshart will be entertaining the guests.

Kate Moss and the launch of her new clothing line via Top Shop has caused a flurry of media coverage worldwide - not to mention thousands of eager females queuing for a slice of her infamous look.

It’s also sparked some fascinating debates about the power of brands and the influence that celebrity has over our society. One strand to the debate has been about the Kate Moss brand and how she’s managed to build interest, intrigue and demand for what ever she touches, for so many years.

As a brand she’s been very careful about not having a voice - she doesn’t often speak out, answer her critics or try to push her views and as such her views are aren’t banded around or sought after in comparison to some of her peers in the fashion world. Kate will also add her own vocals to the birthday jam session.

“Kate wants to re-establish herself as a would-be singer by joining in, in the same way that she used to get on stage with old boyfriend Pete Doherty,” Daily Express quoted a source as saying “She is also considering inviting some of the locals from the village for afternoon tea and cakes and a happy birthday sing-song over the weekend,” the source added.
